The Relationships between Constructive Thinking and Motivation, Learning Strategies, and Some Correlates among Secondary School Teachers

Abstract
How does secondary school teachers?constructive thinking relate to their learning behavior? This study aimed at exploring the relationships between secondary school teachers?constructive thinking and their motivation, learning strategies, academic achievement, and teacher efficacy in the course of educational psychology. The participants included 141 secondary-school teachers (50 males and 90 females) who were taking 40 graduate-level credits in education at National Kaohsiung Normal University in summer, 1997. Six instruments were employed: Constructive Thinking Inventory, Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), Cognitive Needs Scale, Humor Initiation Scale, Humor Joke, Teacher Efficacy Scale. The applied statistic analyses included product-moment correlation, multiple regression, MANOVA, and canonical correlation. Results showed that : there were relationships between teachers?constructive thinking and cognitive needs, humor-related characteristics, learning strategies, and academic achievement. Finally, path analyses were employed to examine the appropriateness of the proposed research structure.
